Quick definitions of common rasa.io terms.
Account & people
- Contact — anyone in your contact database. May or may not be subscribed to receive emails.
- Subscriber — a contact who is opted in to receive at least one of your subscription types.
- List — a static group of contacts you build for targeting (e.g., "Webinar Registrants March 2026"). You add and remove members manually or by file import.
- Subscription Type — a category of email a contact can opt into or out of (e.g., "Weekly Newsletter," "Special Promotions").
- Admin — a team member who can manage other users.
- Member — a team member who can edit messages they have access to but cannot manage the team.
Messages
- Newsletter — your recurring, AI-personalized email.
- Sequence — a drip campaign (e.g., onboarding series, marketing campaign, event registration journey).
- Blast — a one-time broadcast to a list.
Content
- Content Pool — the collection of articles available for your upcoming newsletter.
- Source — where articles come from (an RSS feed, a topic Scout discovers articles for, etc.).
- Featured Source — a source where all articles are automatically featured.
- Featured Article — a single article promoted to higher priority.
- Scout — rasa.io's AI agent for content discovery and topic management.
- Section — a grouping of articles within a newsletter (e.g., "Industry News"). Defined per newsletter.
- Location — a placement slot in your layout for images or text (e.g., Banner 1, Square 1, Text 1).
- Whitelist — keywords that articles must contain to be included.
- Blacklist — keywords that exclude articles from being included.
- Custom Tags — tags you add manually to articles. These are internal but help rasa.io's AI understand article topics.
Scheduling
- Frequency — how often your newsletter sends: Weekly, Biweekly, or Monthly.
- Cutoff Offset — how many hours before send rasa.io stops automatically pulling content from your sources. You can still add content manually until the newsletter generates.
- Override — a customized version of a single send (different time, different cutoff). Shows in a different color on the calendar.
- Skip — telling rasa.io to skip a specific send without changing the overall schedule.
Audience
- Include Lists — lists you're sending the newsletter to.
- Exclude Lists — lists you're suppressing from a send (their members won't receive it).
- Segment — a subset of contacts based on rules or attributes (available to Enterprise clients only).
Layout & design
- Layout — the visual structure of your email (header, content arrangement, footer). Used to be called a "template."
- Standard template — drag-and-drop modules with four pre-built options: Classic, Newspaper, Insights, and Big and Bold. Recommended for most customers; optimized for all email clients, low maintenance.
- Drag-and-drop builder — custom template builder for clients who want more flexibility and are willing to spend more time maintaining the template.
- Custom HTML Template — a fully custom HTML layout you build or upload, using rasa.io's special tags to insert dynamic content. For clients with very specific brand design requirements and access to HTML expertise.
Deliverability & analytics
- Domain Authentication — DNS setup that proves to inbox providers that rasa.io can send mail on your behalf.
- Suspect Click — a click that's likely from a bot rather than a human (e.g., a corporate security scanner).
- Open Rate — percentage of recipients who opened.
- Click Rate — percentage of recipients who clicked at least one link.
Other
- AI Sourcing — the conversational interface for working with Scout to discover content and topics.
- Top Articles Page — a public-facing page showing the top articles from your newsletter.
