Troubleshooting images not displaying in emails
If images aren't showing up in your newsletter, there are a few common causes. Here's how to identify and address them.
Common reasons images don't display
- Blocked by the recipient's email client — many email clients block externally hosted images by default. Recipients can enable image display in their settings.
- Firewall restrictions — strict organizational firewalls, especially in government or enterprise environments, may block access to external image servers.
- Background images not supported — some versions of Outlook do not support background images. Use fallback colors or text where possible.
- Source website blocking hotlinking — if an article image shows in the Content Pool but not in the sent email, the publisher's site may be blocking external image embedding.
What you can do
- Include a View in Browser link — rasa.io newsletters include this automatically. Subscribers who can't see images can view the full newsletter in their browser.
- Use a mix of text and images — your newsletter should still communicate clearly even if images don't load.
- Make sure domain authentication is set up — authenticated domains improve trust with email clients and can reduce image blocking. See How to authenticate your domain.
If a specific article image is broken
If an image appears in the Content Pool but not in the sent newsletter, the source website is likely blocking hotlinking. You can replace the image manually by editing the article in the Content Pool and uploading a different image.
If you're seeing a consistent image issue across multiple sends, contact support@rasa.io with a description of the issue and a screenshot if possible.
